No army of engineers needed: Snowflake targets AI complexity with managed platform

Snowflake Inc is betting on a "fully managed approach", which the cloud-based data platform says eliminates the need for heavy engineering teams, taking on hyperscalers in the AI data platform market. “You don’t need an army of engineers to run your data estate,” Vijayant Rai, managing director for India, told Moneycontrol. The company’s positioning comes even as it both competes and partners with hyperscalers such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure, on whose infrastructure its platform runs. Snowflake provides a cloud-based data platform that allows enterprises to store, manage, and analyse large volumes of data while increasingly layering AI capabilities on top. The pitch is gaining relevance as companies move from AI experimentation to production, where fragmented data, high infrastructure costs, and talent constraints are slowing adoption. Rai said a core challenge for enterprises remains fragmented data spread across multiple systems, which limits their ability to run analytics or deploy AI at scale. Snowflake’s platform, he said, aims to address this by bringing data together in one place while handling governance and security.
