I Over-Relied on AI’: Developer Says Claude Code Wiped 2.5 Years of Data

Alexey Grigorev, founder of AI Shipping Labs, used Claude Code (an AI coding assistant from Anthropic) to help migrate his website infrastructure to Amazon Web Services. He decided to host two platforms—AI Shipping Labs and DataTalks.Club—on the same infrastructure to save a small monthly cost. Although Claude advised keeping the systems separate, Grigorev proceeded with the combined setup. During the migration, the AI executed server management commands that accidentally deleted the entire production infrastructure, including 2.5 years of course data (homework, projects, leaderboards). All backup snapshots were also erased, taking down both websites. The incident highlights the risks of over-relying on AI automation without careful supervision, especially for critical infrastructure tasks.
